Morning Visitor
For larger image click on picture.
Every morning a flock of quail show up on the back porch for a handout of seed. They are getting to be quite chubby. Hmmmm, where's the shotgun Gertrude? Just kidding!
I'll try to get a closer image this morning. They are pretty shy, so I'll have to get out the 100-300mm...
And here they are.

I love quail. We had a large family this summer running around, but they don't come here too often because of the cats. I really like the way they cross the street. One of them runs to the middle of the road like a crossing guard, another adult and the babies run like heck across the street, then the adults follow. It never occurs to them that they can fly across.
Hi John! Thanks for stopping by my blog again! With going back to work this fall I have been having a hard time keeping up blogging. You have so much great stuff here! I really like your slide show, and this little quail brought back memories for me. We used to have a"flock" at an old house I once rented.
I'll be back!
Quail! Yummy!!! :-) No quail here, but I get pleny of Mourning Doves! They're eating me out of house and home. Winter must be on the way!
Beautiful quail, John. I can see why they like your back yard!
I got to see some quail a few times this summer down in the soybean field behind my mailbox. How I wish I could get this close to them. There's your winter assignment, John...more of these charming quail shots.

Quails are those birds that always give me a good fright when I'm out in the countryside. They flutter at takeoff from a position not visible which gives me a bit of a boo!
Ihaven't tasted quali since childhood days but I rmember loving the taste of it's gamey meat.
Neat!
