Dawn Comes to the Eureka Fishing Fleet

I'm looking back at some of the better stuff from the last year for the next several posts.  The trip my son and I took up north in November provided a lot of material.  So, I'll post some of those over the next few days.

I am also considering another of my "Festival of Film" series.  Film really is a different world, and now is even sometning kind of unusual.

This Victorian mansion is across the street from the Carson Mansion in Eureka, California. It was built as a wedding present by Carson for one of his children. It is as lovingly maintained as the as the menacing green monster across the street.

This is page 76 extolling the wonders of Eureka, Ca. Lord help me, this is worse than heroin, or what I think heroin might be like Once I get going, I can not stop.

The basic programs invloved are MS Publisher, Adobe Acrobat Pro and Photoshop. I have gone through each of the pictures selected and created high resolution (300 dpi) images suitable for publication. Fortunately Publisher does not imbed these behemoth pictures, 20+ megs per image. I settled on a page background last night. It is a California sky from a beach photograph. I have added it to all the pages. It gives the pictures some "pop" yet does not distract from them. Formatting is a chore. There is not only the issue of positioning the photos, there is the matter of finding the place to put the text and work within the constraints imposed by the pictures.

Now, can anybody tell me where there is a 12 Step meeting to help me with this little problem I have here?

Bates Motel? The Carson Mansion, Eureka, California

Norman!!!!!

Nah, it's the Carson Mansion in Eureka, California built by the lumber baron William Carson in the late 1800s. It is an enormous and imposing home that sits on a hill overlooking the town and the harbor. The mansion is now a private club. It does have a slightly sinister feel about it.

I deliberately (really!) metered on the threatening early morning sky to put the house in silhouette.

Eureka Waterfront

Continuing the photos taken on the trip my son Will and I took up to Eureka, this is down on the waterfront which has been done in very nice fashion. There is easy blending of tourist activities and the fishing industry. It's a lovely place to visit.
