Mini-Studio

We got an inexpensive mini-studio for product shooting. It comes with two two-sided screens ranging from bright white to black. Today I took a porcelain geisha and garden lamp out to give it a try.

Beach Grass

I was out doing a bit of work today in Watsonville (actual paying work, non-photography... what we starving artists will do!). As always I had my camera with me, and I headed down to the beach when I was done. It was a cold gloomy day, certainly not fit for landscapes. So, I pulled out the macro, and... voila!

As for the desktop being fried, it is still in the shop. However, posting became less of a nuisance when I hooked up a mouse. (am I the only one that hate those finger pads?) I do miss Photoshop and Lightroom which are on the desktop, but I do have PS Elements on this machine. So, I'll post.

Salinas Country Club - 19th Hole

Continuing the theme of the Red Cross golf tournament, this is a shot in the club house at the Salinas Country Club. I liked the way the light played on the hanging glasses. The macro lens delivered nice clarity. Fun image for me.

MJ Goes Artsy Craftsy

I was duncing around in the backyard with the 70-300mm. We have a small pond Anita installed. The light was looking kind of interesting, so I shot a couple frames. I rather liked the result.

Through a Bird Feeder Dimly

Oh what the heck, kind of cool look. The afternoon light was refracting through the hummingbird feeder and that intrigued me a bit. Red is not digital photography's favorite hue. But this came out pretty good.

Beams

I have been trying of late to spend time looking for and at routine things in the world and attempting to catch something visually interesting. This shot is an example of that. These are beams in a sunscreen. I liked the way the light cast shadows. Not a particularly good image, but it does give me some ideas.

Anita and I took a ride up the coast to Half Moon Bay to see the town and to visit shops and antique stores. It was a cold a crisp day for these parts with a beautiful blue sky.

There was all sorts of stuff in the shops and in the town to photograph, and I will put up a few images over the next several days.

I know... too deep :)

I took this at Carmel beach yesterday. This is the hardest beach to walk that I have ever been on. It is a coarse sand suitable for making concrete. You just sink in it. I was pooped after 50'.

Incidentally, the proper name for this beach is Monastary Beach as there is a Carmelite Monastary across Route 1. But to the locals it is known as "Mortuary Beach" due to the large number of drownings caused by the incredible rip tides and foolish SCUBA divers who choose to play in them.

Just read a moving post over at Micki's Shutterbug Underexposed. It has left me in a very thoughtful mood. God has laid a feast before us, and it is up to us to partake.

This page faces the Table of Contents. It was created with MS Publisher. That application is image friendly and in which it is simple to compose. The formatted book is then rendered by Acrobat Pro which creates reasonable size files. I am up to about 90 pages and the Acrobat file is still under 10 megs where if I published in in the original format, Publisher, I would be running into the gigs by now.

I almost named this Artsy Schmartzy II. I took this on the beach up in Mendocino County near sunset. There were many interesting things to see on this beach including rather spectacular rock formations, huge flocks of gulls and pelicans, star fish in profusion and much more.

It's Thanksgiving, so I really don't feel like fiddling with photobloggy things, so I'll just throw this out for today. I took it at Rocky Point Restaurant in Big Sur where we celebrated Anita's birthday yesterday morning. I saw this at the table next to us out of the deck overlooking the ocean and liked how it looked.

Speaking of Thanksgiving, I have a lot to be thankful for. On Tuesday, my colonoscopy came back negative... no tumors. I was clean for the first time in three years. Talk about relieved!
